  • Pedagogy in a digital world

    Researchers based at the University of British Columbia and Concordia University in Canada have embarked on a project that investigates marginalised urban youth’s media arts practices in Vancouver and Montréal. The team aims to identify how arts programmes impact on youth’s engagement around identity, culture, health and wellbeing. Read more

Community Research Site: Gulf Island Film and Television School

The Gulf Islands Film & Television School is a creative media epicenter where first time rookies, youth & adults, live with and are mentored by Canada’s top media producers and industry professionals. GIFTS specializes in “learning by doing,” offering short hands-on media intensive training programs and teen summer camps at its live in training facility situated on beautiful Galiano Island, BC. The high caliber training is widely recognized by filmmakers, industry and academics.

Community Research site: The Native Youth Program

The Native Youth Program is a collaborative work-study program. It provides students with an opportunity to learn about traditional and contemporary Northwest Coast cultures from their own experiences and research, and from local First Nations guest speakers. They will also learn about the resources at the FNHL and MOA and develop skills in public presentations using objects and visual aids at the museum. Participants will share this knowledge with other students and museum visitors through guided tours and presentations. Students are expected to study, write reports, and participate in study trips.

Community Research Site: La Cité des arts

La Cité des arts est un programme en éducation artistique destiné au renforcement de la motivation scolaire et à la réintégration socioprofessionnelle des clientèles de jeunes à risque des banlieues défavorisées de la Rive-Sud de Montréal au Québec. Dans le but de contextualiser et de donner un sens concret aux apprentissages, le curriculum du programme offre des cours optionnels en arts médiatiques, en arts plastiques ainsi qu’en art dramatique aux jeunes qui réintègrent une démarche de formation scolaire pour obtenir une diplomation d’études secondaires ou les équivalences nécessaires à leur admission dans un programme de formation professionnelle.
