Ruth Beer

Ruth Beer is a Professor in the Faculty of Visual Art and Material Practice at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She is an artist, researcher and teacher who is interested in interdisciplinary approaches to these practices. Her artwork, including sculpture, video, photography and interactive projections has been shown in national and international exhibitions. She is the recipient of several public art sculpture commissions, Canada Council Visual Art Grants and is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. She has been awarded major Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Grants for research and creation projects including most recently for “Trading Routes: Grease Trails, Oil Futures” (2013-2017). Her recent artwork of geologically-inspired forms and exploration of expressive materials and processes addresses social history, geo/marine conditions and environmental sustainability.
